Elementary English Language Skills Training

Course Description

Students at this level usually have no or minimal grasp of the English Language. Through this programme, students are trained in the three major components of English; namely Structure/Speaking, Conversation and Reading/Writing.This is done in a way that manages to catch and maintain the student's interest. An unique feature of SLC's ELST programme is the Action Learning component where students are exposed to various electronical media. In Action Learning, the student uses interactive workshops, audio, video and the latest multimedia technology to explore the language they are learning.

This basic programme will help students to understand and respond to simple questions and directions. They will be able to participate in brief conversations that centre on everyday events and topics.

Intermediate English Language Skills Training

Course Description

Students are given training in the three major components of English; namely Structure/Speaking, Conversation and Reading/Writing. Action Learning,  where students are exposed to various electronical media, is also utilised in this level to help students get a real life feel of the language they are learning.

Upon completion of this level, students will find that they can understand most questions and statements at normal speaking speeds. They will be able to sustain a conversation with anyone so long as the topics are familiar with them.

Advanced English Language Skills Training

Course Description

Students are trained extensively in the three major components of English; namely Structure/Speaking, Conversation and Reading/Writing. An unique feature of SLC's ELST programme is the Action Learning component where students are exposed to various electronical media. In Action Learning, the student uses interactive workshops, audio, video and the latest multimedia technology to explore the language they are learning.

A student who completes this level will be able to clearly communicate any idea in the English language. He or she will also be able to understand conversations and lectures with maximum ease. The student will at this stage be ready for university level studies in any field.

Students who successfully complete this level have the option of attempting the IELTS (International English Language Testing System) Exams. These exams are conducted by Cambridge University and IDP Australia and are International English Language Qualifications which will enable students to proceed to any University in UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and other countries where English is the primary language of instruction.
